What is Shichitoi, the Shichito rush grown on the Kunisaki Peninsula in Oita Prefecture?
Shichitoigusa is a plant of the Cyperaceae family, with a history of 350 years, and Ryukyu tatami refers to tatami mats made with this Shichitoigusa tatami mat.
Because the cross section of the stems of Shichitoui is triangular, it is difficult to automate weaving, and even today it is still woven by hand, which requires skilled hands. As a result, there are few farmers producing it, making it a rare crop.
Shichitoi, which has excellent characteristics such as cultural value and strength, has been registered under the Geographical Indication Protection System (GI) as "Kunisaki Shichitoi Table."
<Features of Shichito-i>
Shichitoi tatami mats are extremely durable and were even used in judo halls.
Compared to regular tatami mats, it is more durable and resistant to fire, and because it is not dyed with mud after harvesting, the natural smooth feel of the material is well-received.
<Handling Precautions>
Zori are made from natural plant materials and are not water resistant.
If your sandals get wet, they may absorb water and cause the grass and fabric to deteriorate, so please be careful not to get them wet.
If your sandals get dirty, remove the dirt with a brush, then wipe off the dirt with a tightly wrung-out rag, and let them dry slowly in a shady area with low humidity and good ventilation.
Drying them in direct sunlight can cause other materials to deteriorate and damage the sandals.
If you will not be using the product for a while, we recommend storing it in a place with low humidity and out of direct sunlight, such as a shoe cabinet.
Sandals made from natural materials breathe, so they absorb moisture from the humidity in the air.
Even if you store your sandals in a box, humidity may rise inside the box if you place them in a high-temperature location, which can cause moisture buildup. We recommend placing moisture-absorbing material under the sandals.
